Le décès de Flip Saunders, hier soir, à l'âge de 60 ans, a ému l'ensemble de la ligue à commencer évidemment par ses joueurs et anciens joueurs.

Dirigeants, coaches, journalistes, supporteurs et évidemment joueurs et anciens joueurs ont tous été marqués par le décès de Flip Saunders, GM et entraîneur des Minnesota Timberwolves. Ce dernier souffrait du cancer mais son état de santé ne semblait pourtant pas s'empirer au cours des jours précédents... La triste nouvelle a été commentée sur les réseaux sociaux et de nombreux acteurs NBA ont tenu à rendre hommage à Saunders. Kevin Garnett, ami de Flip, son premier coach lors de son arrivée dans la ligue en 1995, a réagi sur Facebook, postant cette photo. Kevin Garnett était revenu aux Wolves en cours de saison dernière notamment pour y retrouver son ancien mentor. Comme KG, la plupart des joueurs de Minnesota ont été particulièrement atteint par le décès de Flip Saunders.

I've been thinking for 30 minutes of what to say but words can't describe how special and important Coach Saunders was to me. I want to thank you coach for giving me the opportunity to play in the NBA and achieve my dream. I know the man above has a special place for you in his kingdom and this world, this league, this family will never be the same. I love you coach and I'm going to miss you so so much.

Ses anciens joueurs, dont certaines stars comme John Wall ou Kevin Love, ont eux aussi rendu hommage au coach.
The sting of losing another loved one to cancer doesn't get any easier. My thoughts & prayers are with the Saunders &Twolves family. Flip you were one of a kind. Great basketball mind and even better human being. You had a great impact on my life personally and professionally. RIP my friend. Prayers are with the Saunders family during this time.
